Spring has sprung. It's time to shed your winter skin…
and bloom.

Actually, this is a theme we've been writing and designing
a lot about for our client Macquarie Community College. Promotions for the College's spring term have all been around the theme "bloom".

We've been promoting courses for rebalancing mind and body and exploring who you really are. www.macquarie.nsw.edu.au

Authenticity, integrity and balance have always been important to Active Voice. At the moment, those values seem particularly
resonant in the opportunities coming our way.

In this issue of voice, you'll read about a visual identity we created for Here and Now - a form of counselling that keeps you real and in the moment.

We've been talking to the ANZ bank about integrity and transformation. The bank started
a global conversation about its societal purpose and shared their approach with us.

And to celebrate spring, our online exhibition this month is botanica, an exploration of our
relationship with plants as sustaining, healing and beautiful.

Happy blooming.

values in action

Here and Now is a style of therapy that works
on the relationships between the persons present.
It gives an immediate experience of how we affect and are affected by others.

It's about learning better ways to relate to
people, creating more connection and intimacy,
and discovering your authentic self.

Active Voice created a visual identity for Here
and Now. The creative needed to reflect values
of transformation, energy, movement, courage, aliveness and intimacy. The look and feel is about being dynamic, moving forward and the spark of insight and new ideas.

Originating from an actual flame, the logo is derived from a photographic image of a swirling sparkler.

It captures the ignition of action, the spiralling
outward of possibilities which can also be perceived in reverse, spiralling inward to a point of focus.

Bits shooting off represent new ideas and potential as well as letting go of old habits, developing openness.

A fine line overlaying the dynamic swirl represents the path of the individual
within the group.

The text is light and spaced, allowing room for breath and growth - the oxygen needed to keep the flame alive.

ANZ staff talk about societal purpose in Fiji.

ANZ: the possibilities of purpose

Starting an organisation-wide conversation about societal purpose in a large financial institution sounds like an uphill battle. Jacqui Andrews, of ANZ's Breakout and Cultural Transformation team, has been astounded by the interest and excitement this conversation generated at the bank.

Volunteers from the front line were invited to interview ANZ's top 300 leaders. The approach was one of "Appreciative Inquiry" - looking at positives and possibilities rather than problems and solutions.

"Exploring corporate social responsibility was about articulating what's the right thing for us and for our stakeholders - not copying what other organisations are doing."

And the key findings showed strong alignment with the strategic direction and values of the bank. Jacqui said it was clear people understand the commercial reality in which societal purpose operates.

"Our people want to make a difference in the community, leveraging our capabilities and strengths for positive impact. Our financial literacy program is a great example of how
this works," Jacqui said.

The approach was bold and different - in keeping with ANZ's values. Figuring out the "how" first and trusting the "what" to emerge worked well. The bank now has a defined societal purpose that is an extension of its values.

"Defining societal purpose has been about connecting with the hearts and minds of our people and creating an awareness that will
guide decision making.

"It's created lots of momentum. We invited people to get involved in shaping the future of the company and their enthusiasm and commitment has been amazing."

Interaction with plants enhances our personal wellbeing and the health of our culture as a whole - through sustenance, medicine
and sensual appreciation. See our artists explore their relationships with this powerful source.

Botanica

The latest exhibition from Active Voice's creative community is Botanica. Please view
the work online.

A huge thank you to everyone who contributed.

Our next exhibition will be toward the end of
the year and the theme will be time.

Think - timing (sport, music, punch lines),
time travel, relativity, wasted time, running
out of time, making time, killing time, internal
and subjective time versus external clock time, regrets, the healing qualities of time, ageing, another time, dream-time, the time is now,
time is precious, moments in time etc.
