| title 'Crafty' 2004, mixed media, dimensions variable name Adrianne Tasker and Eleesa Collis description Eleesa Collis and Adrianne Tasker's art practices look to the organic as reflective of the social. 'Crafty' is their first collaborative project, using rhizomic stems in woven, map like configurations that explore the dissemination of ideas. The black and glossy surface of the work is simultaneously alluring and repelling, deconstructing binary codes such as good and evil and right and wrong of centralised 'root' philosophy. A rhizome acts as a stem not a root, it is a non-hierarchical system that may be ruptured at any point and will start again from old or new lines. This expansive and regenerative nature is linked here with the multiplicity of woman's craft. This installation 'Crafty' represents a network of nodes and lines with multiple entry points. Perceptions become interconnected, where craft is neither a skilled deception nor banished knowledge. |
